Charges are the professional services you render such as prophys, extractions, restorative procedures, etc.  To post charges click on the Charge button on the Posting screen. After clicking on the Charge button the Charge Entry screen will display on top of the Posting screen. To post a charge you will select a procedure and click the Record button.  Before recording you will insure that the proper Doctor and Status are selected.  Charge Posting also includes other options and all of this will now be discussed.

Procedure Selection Methods
All combo boxes act the same in Diamond Dental Software.  The Procedure Code Search combo box holds more items than most however.  Several hundred procedures may be in your procedure table.  Scrolling through several hundred items to find a procedure can be difficult.  The program offers four methods to select procedures. These are: Procedure Codes, HotKeys, Procedure Keys, and Explosion Codes. These methods will now be discussed.

Procedure Code Search
To find a procedure by its ADA Procedure Code, open the Procedure Code Search combo box by clicking on its down arrow button.  The list will open displaying as many procedures as can be displayed on one screen.  If the procedure you are looking for is in view, then your search is over, simply click on it and the procedure will be selected for posting. We will assume however that the procedure in question is further down in the table and out of view.  Click in the text box area of the Procedure Code Search combo box.  You will enter the ADA code here.  The entire code is usually not necessary however.  As you enter each character of the code, the list will jump to whatever matches what is in the text box. When the procedure you are seeking comes into view, click on it to select it.

Selecting Procedures Using HotKeys
Since you may not have the ADA Procedures Codes committed to memory, an optional method (and the most common method) of finding procedures is by posting HotKeys.  The posting HotKeys are the 16 buttons seen at the top of the Charge Entry screen.  Each HotKey will open up the Procedure Code Search combo box to a pre-selected item.  For example the HotKey labeled "Amalgm" (misspelled because this abbreviation only allows 6 characters) has been set to open the combo box up to the first amalgam restoration in the Procedure table which is "D2140  - Amalgam - One Surface."  If you are posting an amalgam filling, just click on the Amalgam HotKey.  Chances are the specific procedure you want will be one of the 20 that come into view when the list opens.  If not, it probably is close by and can be found with a little scrolling. The HotKeys come pre-set by Diamond Dental Software but you can customize them in any way you want.  Each button can be given a 6 character caption and a designation as to the procedure in the Procedure table that it will open.
